I think it is easy, especially in suburbia, to ignore the weather and the changing seasons. We have roofs over our heads and air conditioning to keep us comfortable. Our lawns and gardens are respectable and controlled. Some of us spent years working in cubicles or office buildings, unaffected by the seasons except for the occasional ice storm. As homemakers, we no longer live this way. We should take note. Why? Because seasons and weather are gifts that do us good every day—yes, even the heat.

We still want to fill our homes with coziness, but we long to throw off winter, to feel bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. We want to stretch and laugh with delight. We don’t want heavy any more. What are some things we can do to stay cozy but take advantage of spring’s budding out?

Winter can be harsh and hard, as many of us Texans learned early in 2021. But part of being a Proverbs 31 woman is being prepared, cheerfully prepared. Take the long dark cold of winter and make her your handmaid for planning, nesting, tending, and loving your family.

God promised us the changing of the seasons and the food that they would produce. Autumn is given to us to enjoy! It is a time of harvest, a promised event, and a gracious act of God. He promised us seasons and every year, when Autumn overtakes summer, God is showing His faithfulness. What is not to celebrate?
